Our Story

Maoi was founded in 2020 by Julia Muniz Robinson — a passionate Brazilian entrepreneur, surfer, and model — with a vision to create a swimwear brand that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and sustainability.

Cayla Moore joined Maoi in 2022, bringing her perspective as a native Hawaiian artist, water woman, and entrepreneur. Over the next few years, Cayla and Julia worked closely to grow the brand, blending their cultures and creative visions from Hawai‘i and Brazil.

In 2025, Cayla became the sole owner of Maoi and now leads the brand as CEO and Creative Director. Today, Maoi continues to thrive under her leadership — rooted in Hawai‘i and continuing on the vision. 

Designed by water women, for water women — our suits are made to move, surf, swim, and live freely. Water-worthy and grounded in island values, Maoi is for the modern beach woman who honors the elements, empowers others, and embraces the natural flow.

The Maoi Swim team is made up of 5 empowered, fierce, and visionary women who are committed to making a positive impact in the world. Being part of this brand means being part of a community of goddesses who share a passion for creating a better world, and who believe in the power of love, compassion, and inspiration to effect change.

Our Products

All of our swimsuits are designed in-house and made entirely of sustainable materials. We thought about everything - from production to our shipping bags and method - to ensure that our products are eco-friendly and reduce our impact on the planet. Our suits are made ethically in Bali from Italian fabrication, ensuring that they are not only beautiful, but also made with care and attention to detail.

While we currently offer a range of styles that cater to almost all body types, we acknowledge that we have work to do when it comes to offering a wider range of sizes. As a small company, we are committed to expanding our sizing options as we grow, and we want to be transparent and honest with our supporters about our progress.
